Week 3 - Term 2 2018

Hi everyone,

Last week we celebrated Primary Science week with a variety of hands on activities and experiences. Some children made a wizard's brew using vinegar, food colouring, glitter, washing up liquid and baking soda. We watched closely and observed chemical reactions happening before our eyes. We have also been talking about Hawaii's Mount Kilauea volcano which has been erupting since the beginning of May. This has resulted in lots of discussions about the molten lava that has been spreading across Hawaii's Big Island. We decided to create our own volcanic eruption using some of the above ingredients, and while it didn't exactly go according to plan, it was lovely to see the children's anticipation and wonder on their faces.

Olivia also made her own volcano at home and brought it into class to share. She used a slightly different method to our previous one and she was very successful.

Please hope you enjoy our photos of chemical reactions...
